of course it's conceit...and (let's bring in the sexism thing here) it's worse for
women. for a lot of our clients, if you don't have at least a bachelor's, you're
on a par with the lowliest clerk in the university. that plays out to faculty
completely disregarding any professional advice we can give them (such as "read the
guidelines"). not all faculty are like this, certainly, but enough consider most
folks in an administrative position to be way below their radar....
