Re: Pros and Cons of the CRA program

To add in to what Kris just said:
Pros - People seem to think that I know what I'm doing. It provides a
certain "credibility" in our very prestige driven world of academia.
Credentials are everything, right? *wink*
My former supervisor was a CRA too, and we agreed that I didn't have to
take nasty accounting classes if I studied the materials to become a
CRA. So I studied, and passed, and here I am. With a minimum # of
accounting classes. Of course, it's the same woman that suckered me into
working on an MS in Science Management, so I don't know that I'm that
grateful to her.
Cons - People seem to think I know what I'm doing. I just imagine the
looks I get at some of the questions I've been known to ask about USDA
and NIH, two agencies I deal with only about once a year. I know just
enough to be dangerous.
It just goes to show that a lot of persistence and some well refined
research skills can get you far in life.
