Survey on Volume of Sponsored Activity
Brian Anderson 13 Jan 2003 10:02 EST
Our institution has experienced about a 12% drop in new grants and contracts
during the past 18 months. Proposal activity has increased during that
time, particularly federal proposals.
We receive less than 30% funding from the federal government and rely on
business and industry for roughly half of our grant and contract activity.
The rest comes mostly from state and local governments.
It would be easy to blame the economy for the drop in awards, but but
without comparisons to similar institutions it's only an uneducated guess.
It would be really helpful to know what similar institutions are
experiencing.
If your volume of activity falls within $10-$20 million and less than half
of your funding comes from the federal government, I would be really
interested in hearing from you. I would like to know your increase/decrease
in sponsored activity during the past fiscal year and your current
year-to-date trend. If your activity is down, it would be interesting to
hear why you think it is down.
You may respond either to the listserve or to me directly.
Thanks for your help!
Brian
