Jada,
The California State University 23-campus system has just approved such
a position [see below]. Prior to this, researchers had to be hired
either in the individual university's auxiliary foundation or as
lecturers.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Help...another survey
I've been asked to help with a survey underway at our institution and
thought this would be a good place to start. There is a proposal to
add an employment title of "Research Professor" to our faculty job
family. This would be a non-tenure track position that is primarily
funded by soft funds. What we are interested in gathering is:
1) Do you have the employment title "Research Professor" (Asst. Res.
Prof., Assoc. Res. Prof.)?
2) If yes, is the criteria located on a web page? If no, can you mail
or e-mail it to me?
3) Is there a cap/ceiling on the number or percentage the university
will allow in this job code?
You may respond directly to me at: xxxxxx@okstate.edu. I will be
happy to share our results if anyone is interested. Just let me know.
Thanks in advance for your help.
