Following the grant regulations for program income is a good procedure
until you confer with CO. Unless the contract was unusual, there will
probably be no reference to program income. The question might be asked,
"If you followed the contract, how did program income get
generated?" Contracts for research often closely resemble grants (some
researchers do not clearly understand the difference), and your PI may have
exceeded the bounds of the contract. In that case, you may find that there
was not program income, but revenue due for some other reason.
