Re: adjuncts on research grants Rebecca Sutcliffe 29 May 2002 07:20 EST
Good morning:
I'm designing a research study that would attempt to determine the
participation rates of adjuncts and part-time faculty on research grants;
that is, how many apply; how many receive funding.

Since funding sources don't always record this information as part of the
award process, I'm hoping there are some research offices out there that do.
For example, our office is at least able to track faculty status through the
faculty member's title ("visiting," "adjunct," etc.), and we don't place any
formal restrictions on these folks--they may apply for grants as long as
they have a formal appointment letter from the university.

Could you please let me know what the "status" of adjuncts and part-timers
is related to your office's work? Are they "permitted" to apply and recieve
grants? Do you track award information by faculty status?

Your insight and assistance are appreciated. Your answers will assist me to
formulate a research plan for this little-studied area. Please reply offline
if you prefer.
Thanks,
