At Radford University, we also do the same thing with a slight variation. We tend to wait until proposals are significantly along before scheduling a competition. At our institution, where grants do not significantly effect tenure or promotion decisions, it is not at all unheard of to have people delay or cancel submission plans. If PIs know there are multiple people interested in submitting, they tend to dig in and develop proposals more quickly or drop out if they really are not ready or don't want to give someone undue competition. Where they do limit submissions they are reviewed by a committee who decides which are submitted. -----Original Message----- From: Keller, Dr. Diane [mailto:xxxxxx@ES.MARYWOOD.EDU] Sent: Tuesday: May 14, 2002 1:45 PM To: xxxxxx@HRINET.ORG Subject: [RESADM-L] We are a small university with a relatively new Office of Sponsored Research. As more and more faculty are becoming involved in sponsored research, I am running into the issue of faculty members competing for the same source of funding support. Though I know each foundation and government agency has specific guidelines re this issue, I'm looking at how this is handled "in house"...in different Universities. Thank you Diane W.
