SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY

UMKC's office of grants and contracts, Sponsored Programs & Research Support (SPRS), is currently seeking applicants for the position of Senior Accountant. UMKC is a comprehensive research university with an emphasis on graduate and professional study, including an innovative interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. At UMKC, total extramural grants and contracts have grown more than 50 percent in the past 5 years. As part of a team of research administrators, the Senior Accountant will provide support to faculty and staff in securing grants and contracts, reviewing proposals for compliance with university and sponsor regulations, and monitoring grants and contracts accounts.

Summary of Position: Ensure that accounting transactions are correct for project accounts, in accordance with fund accounting principles.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Two to three years experience in accounting operations and knowledge of college and university fund accounting is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications: OMB Circular A-21, A-133, and A-110 experience.

Detailed Description of Duties: Prepare, review and approve accounting transactions that are non-recurring and/or require a knowledge of fund accounting principles. Prepare non-recurring financial reports including development of format. Approve and analyze accounting transactions and/or financial reports, prepare meaningful interpretations and advise administrators of problems and other pertinent matters. Recommend, assist in the development, and implement improvements or revisions in the accounting system, methods, and procedures. Prepare analyses, reconciliations and adjustments of accounts and or funds. Independently assist and advise administrators and faculty on accounting and related matters. Perform complex analytical assignments requiring thorough understanding of the University's financial system and its relationship to the accounting profession. Prepare and/or perform special assignments as directed."

Professional development encouraged. Salary range: $27,774 - $46,661, dependent on experience. Benefits include health/dental plans; 75% tuition discount; no employee contribution required for fully funded defined benefit retirement program, life and disability insurance.

GRANTS AND CONTRACTS SPECIALIST

UMKC is a comprehensive research university with an emphasis on graduate and professional study, including an innovative interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. At UMKC, total extramural grants and contracts have grown more than 50 percent in the past 5 years. As part of a team of research administrators, the Grants and Contracts Specialist will provide support to faculty and staff in securing grants and contracts and reviewing proposals for compliance with university and sponsor regulations.

Other duties of the Grants and Contracts Specialist will include preparing reports of university grants and contracts in Access, administering faculty travel grants, monitoring departmental operating expenses, overseeing job duties for work-study students, and tracking progress on department's goals and measures.

Qualified applicants should possess the ability to perform multiple tasks and exceptional interpersonal skills.  Experience in grants and contracts is preferred but not essential.  Knowledge of Microsoft Access is preferred. A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
