I download the final PDF copy after it is submitted. Then I have a copy on file on my server that can be printed or emailed for requests at any time without visiting the NSF site. NSF has not stated how long they will leave the applications archived on their server. Why? Hmmmm. I suppose because it is easier having all the info in one place (compliance, our internal forms, etc.) and to have historical information secure. It's true we can lose paperwork (rarely), but I am more comfortable with that possibility than the threat of having documents deleted. Joni.
