Janet and All,

Barbara Gray's plan of creating a "new" position works, at least
we've used it. Actually we've done it both ways depending on the
duties and responsibilities. We've had part-time instructos assume
additional teaching duties paid from a grant and they get the same
per-course payment. We've also had part-time folks who have
moved into full-time/temp positions (either teaching in or
coordinating, administering, or otherwise working on a sponsored
program) where part of their salary is paid from a grant and part
from inst. funds. They are paid a salary equivalent to other full-
time/temp instructors. One key here is they are salaried, vs
getting a per-course (or even per-head) based rate.

Since part-time positions are not permanent, they expire either at
the end of the fiscal year or at some other predetermined date,
having the person assume new duties usually involves having them
take a new/ different position from what they previously held.
