I've actually started working with them, customizing the JavaScript largely.
There are still some flaky areas that I'm working out. I talked with NIH
and, indeed, they do encourage checking back to use the latest release
version. Since OMB approves the forms, the "appearance" shouldn't change.
Hopefully, the formatting tweaking is over and the forms match those OMB
approved with the 8/6 update. Not being able to customize (because of
on-going changes) really presents a problem for using the forms most
efficiently. We should encourage the NIH to publish details when the
JavaScript is tweaked so that we can incorporate the changes into our
customized forms.
On another PDF forms note, the PHS5161-1 is availabel in fillable format. We
recently submitted a proposal to CDC using them and discoverd an error in
the calculation of the total in row 1 of the non-construction budget page. I
e-mailed the support e-mail address given and let them know of the error.
One should audit any of the iPDFs available beore committing institutional
signatures to any proposal prepared using them, I think...Bill
