The University of South Carolina invites nominations and
applications for the position of Budget Director.

The Budget Director reports directly to the Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for planning, developing,
and directing all activities related to the formulation and analysis
of the multi-campus budget of the University of South Carolina.
These duties include responsibility for performance funding and
analysis through the South Carolina Commission on Higher
Education, submission of the University’s budget through the State
Budget Office, legislative coordination for the budget, the
preparation and presentation of the annual budget document to the
chief administrative and academic officers of the University as
well as to the Board of Trustees.  Along with responsibility for
implementation of the budget, the Director is responsible for
developing budget policies, monitoring the budget, developing multi-
year budget models, and forecasting revenue and enrollment.

Minimum qualifications for the position include a bachelor’s
degree and 10 years of progressive responsibility in financial
management or equivalent, a record of achievement
commensurate with an appointment as chief budget officer of a
complex and diverse organization, a high standard of professional
integrity and ethics, an ability to articulate the University’s fiscal
position and needs effectively, and a commitment to cultural
diversity and equal opportunity.  Experience in budget
development and analysis is required.

Founded in 1801, the University is a state-supported, SREB Four-
Year I and Carnegie Foundation research institution with strong
undergraduate and graduate programs and highly regarded
professional schools.  The flagship campus is located in Columbia,
the historic state capital, with a metropolitan area population of
almost one-half million.  Columbia is a center of financial,
transportation, and industrial development in the state. The
community has a rich historical and cultural tradition, and is
located within easy driving distance of both the mountains and
coastal beaches.  About 24,000 students are enrolled on the
Columbia campus and almost 36,000 are enrolled throughout the
University’s eight fully accredited campuses.  The budget of the
University is nearly $600 million.

immediately and will continue until the position is filled.  The
University anticipates filling the position July 1, 2001.
