Director, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
Description and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director
heads the office responsible for pre- and post-award processing of
University grants and contracts. This position is a member of the Vice
President's advisory group and consults with the Deans and Directors on
issues relating to external funding. Specific responsibilities include the
following:
· Encourage and support University faculty in their pursuit of external
support for scholarly and pedagogical activities;
· Represent the University before grantors, funding sources,
contractors, and sub-contractors;
· Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate personnel assigned to the
office (including Grants and Contracts Administrator, Administrative
Assistant, and student assistants);
· Advise the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Academic Deans, and
Academic Directors on issues relating to external funding for research and
teaching development;
· Review and approve applications for external funding;
· Prepare annual reports on grants and sponsored projects;
· Coordinate a University-wide initiative to improve faculty access to
sources of external funding;
· Serve as ex officio member of the Institutional Review Board and
Faculty Research Council;
· Manage the University Faculty Research Award and Research Expense
programs;
· Receive and distribute awards;
Necessary Qualifications:
· Familiarity with higher education;
· Significant experience in securing or administering external funds to
support research and teaching;
Desired Qualifications:
· Experience with database development or management related to securing
external funds to support research and teaching;
· Advanced degree in a discipline of the University;
· College or university experience in teaching and in research.
