What the subawardee charges as F&A will depend on the subawardee's F&A
agreement. "Patient care" is almost always excluded from the base, BUT
WATCH OUT: the definition of "patient care" is probably one set up by
accountants, to identify those charges which already have indirect costs
built into them, and is VERY DIFFERENT from any health care professional's
definition!!!! That probably applies for your own rate, also! For
example, here the definition is, for all practical matters, one set of
expenditure object codes. That causes all kinds of opportunities for
educating people!
