Re: NO COST EXTENTION NSF Linda Campbell 23 Apr 2001 13:32 EST

Hi Sharon,

I just sent in a no-cost extension approval via FastLane last week. At that time I checked the most recent version of the Grant Proposal Guide (NSF 01-2), which no longer includes the requirement to inform the Grants Officer. After the standard info re the grantee's ability to authorize up to a one-year extension for reasons other than the fact that funds remain, the language reads:

The grantee shall notify NSF, providing supporting reasons for the extension and the revised expiration date, at least ten days prior to the expiration date specified in the grant to ensure accuracy of NSF's grant data. All grantee-authorized extension notifications must be submitted via the FastLane system. For grantee authorized extensions, no amendment will be issued.

Based on this language, I submitted the approval via FastLane without informing the Grants Officer separately.

I just did a no cost extension on an NSF grant through fastlane.
Then I read in the Grant Proposal Guide that it was necessary to inform the Grants Officer in writing about the extension. Is this necessary?
