Assistant Director for Research Compliance

George Mason University invites applications and nominations for the
position of Assistant Director for Research Compliance.  The Assistant
Director will be responsible for the administration of the Human
Subjects Review Board and the Animal Subjects Review Board and will work
with the Office of Environmental Safety to ensure compliance with
regulations governing the use of Recombinant DNA and radioactive and
other hazardous materials in research and instructional activities.  The
Assistant Director will report to the Director of the Office of
Sponsored Programs.

Qualifications:
Education:  Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree required, Masters or
advanced degree preferred; equivalent combination of experience and
education will be considered.

Experience:  Experience with direct and obvious relevance to regulatory
compliance and research with human subjects.  Experience in developing
training materials and conducting training.

Skills:  Knowledge of relevant federal, state, or local regulations.
Ability to interpret research protocol information in relation to
federal guidelines and internal policies, exercise sound judgment and
make recommendations and/or decisions regarding research policies for
discussion with the Compliance Committees and/or Committee Chairs.  Have
an understanding of academic research institutions.  Applicant should
have demonstrated skill with handling details and the ability to work
independently while being able to prioritize and accomplish
responsibilities of the position in a timely manner.  Applicant should
be proficient in MSOffice, experienced in MSAccess and MSExcel, have
strong written and verbal skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Proposed Start date for this position is June 15, 2001.  Salary will be
