Bill, I don't know anything about the clause you've mentioned, but I have run into the comment "lots of other universities have signed this without a problem". In my case, it was a FAR reference and I kept pushing for a copy before I would get my institution to sign. I couldn't find it. In the end, they couldn't find it either. They removed it and thanked me because otherwise they would not have known the FAR no longer existed. So, hold your ground until you know it is still an active clause!
