Salary range:   $47,900 - $86,300 or $52,700 - $94,900 (depending on
qualifications)

Essential Functions: Perform the highest level of analysis for complex and
specialized agreements for industrial/research collaborations as well as
individual agreements.  Responsibilities include structuring, drafting,
negotiating and execution of agreements while maintaining consistency with
federal, state and institutional policies.  Analyze and develop research
proposals and agreements which have individualized procedures or
requirements, complex negotiation of priorities, multiple partners or
sub-contracts, time dependencies and frequent requests for variance of
University policies.  Engage in strategic planning for the establishment
and continuation of research collaborations.  Develop innovative approaches
to work with faculty to establish collaborations and agreements. Act as
advisor to faculty in development of agreements providing necessary support
in the areas of appropriate representation, imaginative solutions and
timely response in collaborations with private industry and other sponsors.
 Communicate complex technical issues in easy to understand terms.  Develop
agreements for special situations including materials transfer and
confidentiality.   Initiate early contacts, coordinate with industry and
provide business and legal expertise to negotiate and bring to completion
agreements with industrial and other sponsors.   Negotiate complex
agreements.  Coordinates with other University offices to represent
University positions on intellectual property, tangible research materials
and data rights, confidentiality, publication, indirect costs and
third-party liability issues.

Perform comprehensive review of proposal requirements, including format,
assurances, indirect costs, cost sharing, and commitment of University
facilities and resources.   Provide comprehensive analysis of specific
sponsor requirements to identify areas subject to negotiation and variance,
proposes imaginative solutions and acceptable compromise positions.  Apply
significant technical understanding and analytical evaluation, creative
recommendations, principled negotiations and timely execution to research
agreements that may have multiple parties in funding arrangements of high
complexity.  Coordinate specific funding and contract terms with previously
developed patent properties and new invention disclosures.

Interact closely with other University staff as part of a unified team to
rapidly complete complex and individualized agreements.  Process award
documents, renegotiate agreements to accommodate unanticipated changes, and
coordinate post award actions.  Train and supervise support staff.

Minimum Requirements: Education and or experience equivalent to a
Bachelor's degree in a related field.  Demonstrated related experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of industry and university or non-profit patent and
contracting policies.  Knowledge of private industry practices and
concerns.  Strong understanding of business or legal issues.  Demonstrated
analytical skills.  Superior written and oral communication skills with
demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating contracts.  Ability to
communicate complex technical issues in easy to understand terms.  Ability
to gather and discern relevant facts, analyze information and summarize the
essential features of complex technical situations in a timely manner.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
Demonstrated attention to detail.  Ability to handle multiple priorities
simultaneously.  Demonstrated ability to cope with frequent interruptions
and shifting priorities.  Computer proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in life, physical or
engineering science discipline.   Education and/or experience equivalent to
M.S./Ph.D. degree in a related field.   Demonstrated extensive related
experience.  Advanced demonstrated experience with contract and
intellectual property issues.
