Pobox POP server Peggy Yetter 28 Mar 2001 14:47 EST

We are seeing some performance problems on Pobox that we believe are
being cause by our current POP server. We will need to switch the
POP server to one that we have been using successfully on Dolphin.

One of the side-effects of switching POP servers will be that the two
POP servers mark mail status in a different way. Mail that is
currently understood to have been read will come up as new mail when
we switch the POP server. There's no easy way to avoid this
situation. The user must delete the messages again. We apologize for
this incovenience but it's best overall to do this switch.

We will do this switch overnight so your POP users (people using
Eudora, for example) should see this effect tomorrow morning.
This switch should only affect POP users. All other users will see no
difference with their mail but will see a difference in performance.
Please feel free to send us any questions you may have. Thanks.

One of users sent this tip about the switch of POP servers.

< This irritation can be minimized if folks turn off the "save mail for
< X days" feature *before* you do the switch, and then do at least one
< POP check with the new setting to clear out their mail spool . . . I
If you can get this word out to your users today before they leave,
this will minimize having to delete old mail when we switch servers
early tomorrow morning.
