Here's a comment from another list that RESADM might find of interest.
There appears to be
some confusion because the feds did not define what they meant by sponsored
research office.
Regarding the question that I circulated last week about what status or
role Sponsored Projects staff should play on the IRB - I got the
following advice from Jeff Cohen, Director of Education for OHRP.
Regarding membership - University legal counsel shouldn't be member of
IRB, but available as an advisor on issues.
Sponsored Project's representation on the board is probably better
handled as a non-voting member of the committee at the moment. (This
point is being revisited and further discussion in underway. Jeff
thinks those who made the decision got sponsored projects functions
and the development office's responsibilities mixed up.)
