ASSISTANT CONTROLLER, GRANTS & CONTRACTS OCCIDENTAL COLLEGE The Organization Occidental College is one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the nation. Summary of Position Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller, Grants & Contracts is responsible for the management and administration of all aspects of the College's grants and contracts programs. The Assistant Controller ensures compliance with all required regulations, provides program information to senior administration, and supervises staff accountants. Page 2 Occidental College, Assistant Controller, Grants & Contracts, continued Additional responsibilities include: · Oversees staff preparation of monthly reports, journal entries, and monthly and quarterly invoices and drawdowns. · Manages the analysis and record keeping related to all college grants and contracts. · Prepares preliminary drafts of policies and procedures, in order to, ensure the proper administration of the Grants and Contracts Program. Prepares A-133 schedule and footnotes. · Manages all grant and contract administration projects from inception to completion and works closely with Principal Investigators and granting agencies. · Assists Principal Investigators with award budgets, transfers of revenue and expenses, and all issue related to grant administration. · Reviews all award proposals for proprietary prior to submission. · Prepares indirect cost proposals and ensures that proper indirect cost rates are being used on all federal awards. · Oversees the expenditures and drawdown of NSF funds related to an upcoming building project, as well as, ensuring adherence to all federal requirements of the award. · Ensures and monitors that the College is compliant with all awards requirements and corrects deficiencies as necessary. · Participates in Grants and Contracts Approval Committee and provides information to senior level administration on a regular basis. · Performs a variety of accounting related projects and duties when assigned. Background Requirements The Assistant Controller should possess a BS or BA in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible, related experience with three years at the supervisory level is required. The successful incumbent must have thorough knowledge of grants and contracts administration, including federal regulations and compliance issues, budget monitoring, and general accounting practices. Solid finance knowledge and analytical ability is critical for success. Considerable emphasis is placed on the ability to provide a positive working/learning environment, and develop a first-class service organization that responds effectively to inquiries and engenders trust from the campus community. Additional requirements include: · Demonstrated success in interpreting Federal regulations and building compliant business processes · Technical proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and a computerized accounting system is highly preferred. · Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal/written), interpersonal, problem solving, organizational, and customer service skills are critical for success.
