Could any of you share with me your institution's policies on how much
of - and which components of - a faculty member salary can be charged to
a grant?
We have several faculty who receive administrative 'stipends' for
additional duties that they have taken on. One of these individuals
wants to charge that stipend to their NIH grant. In reviewing NIH
policy, and in talking to a grants management specialist at NIH, we
really weren't able to clarify whether or not NIH would consider this
stipend to be part of the individual's base salary. A lot of factors
may come into consideration - how much the stipend is, how long they've
been receiving it, etc.
All of this brings to the forefront our need for a policy on this
issue. So, any help you can offer on what your policies are would be
much appreciated!!
As always, thanks.
