Hi People,
I need your help in solving an impossible problem. We have received
state funding that requires a $2 to $1 match. It is part of a large
engineering initiative and there will be other activity that will be
directly related and some activity that is not so directly related to
the initiative. My question is in regards to the cost-sharing. The
faculty believe if they use some of the state money as cost-sharing on a
federal grant application and the federal grant application is approved
that the federal grant or a portion of the federal grant can be claimed
as cost-sharing for the state funds.
The only way I can see this working is for something like equipment.
For example, if the federal grant proposal is for research equipment. I
can see cost-sharing a third of the equipment costs with the state money
and then possibly claiming the whole amount of the equipment if the
grant is awarded.
Any other ideas on how we can document the match to the state when the
grant application is related to the large engineering initiative and the
state money is used to partially support the grant application?
Your creative ideas or your frank comments regarding the implausibility
of it all will be greatly appreciated!
