DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Germplasm Property Manager Position is a
12 month (University of Florida - Administrative and Professional -
Assistant Director, Research Programs) position.  Florida Foundation Seed
Producers, Inc. (FFSP) and the University of Florida, Institute of Food and
Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) are seeking a motivated manager with good
business, organization, and communication skills to manage the Florida
Agricultural Experiment Station cultivar/germplasm program.  The Manager
will inventory existing contracts and communicate with companies in question
to insure royalty and other payments are paid in a timely manner.  New
research program support and royalty contracts will be negotiated in
conjunction with IFAS plant breeders, IFAS administration, and the user
community.  Included are royalty and research support contracts on
cultivar/breeding line releases and potential releases, material transfer
agreements, and cultivar licensing.  The Manager will attend cultivar
release meetings, oversee Plant Variety Protection and plant patent
applications and communicate with appropriate IFAS faculty and the user
community as to new germplasm releases from IFAS.  The position will be
located at the University of Florida, Gainesville but will involve frequent
travel to Marianna (FFSP headquarters) which is a three and one-half hour
drive from the campus.  Travel in the state to visit plant scientists or
attend seed related meetings will also be required.  Some travel to
negotiate program support and license agreements will be necessary.  Travel
to national scientific meetings to maintain contacts and awareness of
relevant developments is anticipated.
