Pay Range: $42,000 to $63,000

JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Grant & Contract Officer (SGCO), as a professional
representative of CSHS, is responsible for accurate and comprehensive pre-
and post-award administration of clinical trials and research projects
generated by assigned departments. Works as a team member under the Research
Administration management direction.  Major responsibilities include include
supervision and mentoring of Grant Specialist. Provides patient guidance for
Principal Investigators (PI's) and staff in preparation and submission of
research applications.  Is responsible for administration of clinical trials
and research projects.  Requires understanding of clinical trial process and
up to date interpretation of funding agency regulation and procedure to
advise PIs and maintain CSMC compliance. Professional abilities are utilized
in budget, contract, and agreement development and negotiation to cover PI
and institutional costs.  Knows and follows institutional and departmental
policies and procedures with pre and post award management of research
awards.  Guides PIs and staff on policy as they apply to research
administration. Serves as an information source for the department and
research community. Supervises support staff.  Performs other related duties
as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES: Education and experience requirements
area minimum of a BA/BS degree and ten years experience of independent
administration with clinical trial agreements, research grants and contracts
or the equivalent. Experience must include direct supervison of support
staff.  Must have a complete working knowledge of the policies and
procedures of granting agencies as well as the institutional purchasing,
personnel, and accounting systems.  This position requires analytical
abilities to identify and review problem situations, make independent
decisions and /or recommend solutions.  The SGCO must be able to communicate
to individuals at varying levels effectively verbally and in writing.  A
high degree of accuracy is mandatory when developing and managing budgets,
projecting expenditures and mange financial recommendations. This position
requires the use of a calculator, ability to utilize software for word
processing and spreadsheets, as well as familiarity with use of databases.
Must be able to manage an unpredictable and voluminous workload while
providing quality service and meet deadlines through organization,
interpersonal skill, and by accurate prioritization of activities.  Ability
to effectively work with the team is essential.
