Mississippi State University, a land-grant institution, is Mississippi's largest university.  Adjacent to the campus is the Mississippi Research and Technology Park where several university research units and corporate entities are located.  Mississippi State University ranks 59th  in total R&D science and engineering expenditures at public universities as reported by the National Science Foundation. For FY 97 and FY 98, R&D expenditures were approximately $84M and $100M, respectively. Expenditures of $111M for FY99 have been reported to NSF.

Mississippi State University is seeking an individual to direct the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration (pre-award functions and regulatory compliance).  Responsibilities include management of the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration; assisting faculty and staff in the administrative and fiscal aspects of proposal preparation; reviewing proposals for fiscal accuracy and administrative compliance; representing the university in the negotiation of grants and contracts; reviewing grant and contract award documents for acceptability; administering grant and contract award amendments; and administering regulatory compliance.

This position reports directly to the Vice President for Research and also serves as the liaison  between the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of the Vice President for Business Affairs, which is responsible for post-award fiscal matters.  Due to the land-grant mission of the university there is also extensive interaction with the Vice President for Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine.

A bachelor's degree in business or related field, five years work experience in university grant/contract administration or related area, and comprehensive knowledge of federal regulations relating to grants/contracts are required.  Preferred qualifications include an MBA or appropriate advanced degree, excellent communication skills, supervisory experience, and familiarity with the land-grant university system.
