Bulletin #00129; 09/25/00 ASSOCIATE DEAN, GRADUATE STUDIES AND RESEARCH-RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION California State University, Los Angeles, seeks a dynamic, tenured or immediately tenurable person to be the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research-Research Administration, to promote the mission of the University through increased grants and contracts from external sources. The University: California State University, Los Angeles, one of 23 campuses of the California State University system, was founded in 1947. The University is located at the eastern edge of the City of Los Angeles and adjacent to the western San Gabriel Valley, with more than 18,000 students reflecting the rich ethnic diversity of the area. The Position: Under the leadership of the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research - Research Administration oversees the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) and is primarily responsible for the preparation and submittal process of all grants and contracts proposed under University auspices. Interacts with Principal Investigators (PI) with regard to external agency requests for proposals and organizes faculty, community participants and grant writers to produce competitive proposals. Assures correct internal and external budget preparation and routing procedures, contract and subcontract compliance and recovery of allowable indirect costs. Works with campus officers and staff to ensure production of competitive proposals, organizes proposal writing workshops, oversees distribution of funding information to the campus, and is the primary interface with funding agencies in negotiating proposal stage components. Works with faculty and appropriate administrators and staff on a daily basis; assists with Student Research Competition; revises the ORSP web site; produces newsletters, fliers, brochures, summaries of proposals and awards; implements government and University policies and procedures regulating extramural funding. Performs other related tasks. Qualifications: Must be a tenured or immediately tenurable Associate or Full Professor and possess a Doctorate degree. Substantive leadership and administrative background preferred and prior experience working with research/sponsored programs. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
