CSU San Marcos Foundation (http://www.csusm.edu/foundation) was founded in
1990 as a 501(c) 3 public, nonprofit corporation to support the mission of
CSU San Marcos, the 20th campus in the California State University system.
CSU San Marcos, with an enrollment of approximately 5,800, is located in the
city of San Marcos (north San Diego County) just 18 miles from the Pacific
Ocean.
The UPWARD BOUND Program is a U.S. Department of Education TRIO program
designed to prepare low-income and first generation students to complete a
secondary education program and enter a program in higher education. High
school students from 8 north San Diego county high schools participate in
Upward Bound. During the academic year, students participate in a Saturday
Enrichment component consisting of academic courses, career exploration,
academic advising, and college visits. Participants attend weekly tutoring
at the CSUSM campus or their respective high schools and participate in a
3-week summer residential component designed to simulate a college
experience. The CSUSM UPWARD BOUND program is one of over 700 UB programs
nationally and is a member of the Council for Opportunity in Education.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-UPWARD BOUND
Full time, 12-month, with benefits
This is not a state position and continuation
of this position is contingent on satisfactory
performance and project funding.
Salary Range: $35,000 to $41,000

Duties: Under general direction of the UPWARD BOUND Project Director, the
Assistant Director is responsible for the daily operations of the UPWARD
BOUND (UB) Program, monitoring budget allocations, implements the Plan of
Operation, and maintains a high quality of academic services for UB
participants; organizes and oversees student recruitment presentations and
the application, interview, and selection of new UB participants; develops,
implements and coordinates academic support services specified in the UB
grant; oversees Academic Advisor and instructors in monitoring student
progress; recruits instructional staff in collaboration with Director;
prepares federal performance reports and funding proposals in collaboration
with Director; designs and implements professional development workshops for
instructional staff; plans summer residential component and special events;
designs and implements parent education training.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) plus two
years progressive professional student services work experience, including
working with high school students' needs and development.
Knowledge And Abilities: Strong planning and organizational abilities;
previous experience with residential programming; excellent listening,
verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of generally accepted
accounting principles; ability to contribute to a team effort to accomplish
program goals and objectives; ability to establish and maintain cooperative
working relationships with program participants, parents, and University and
Foundation staff; expertise in word processing, spreadsheet and database
applications; working knowledge of grant-related federal regulations is
desirable.
