Dear RESADMers,
We hope by now all of you are aware of the upcoming NCURA Electronic
Research Administration (ERA) conference scheduled for August 3-6 in
Chicago. If you haven't yet registered, we encourage you to check out
the program at <http://www.ncura.edu/meetings/erav>. You will also find
links for on-line registration and hotel information at this site.
(Please note that the cut-off date for the special NCURA room rate at
the Hyatt-Regency McCormick Place is this Friday, July 14.)
"Bridging to Common Ground" is what ERA V is all about--bridging the
knowledge and communication gaps between research administrators and
technical staff, sponsored programs and central information technology
offices, and universities and sponsors...and bridging from the past to
the future. The conference offers a variety of workshops, plenaries,
concurrent sessions, focus sessions and hands-on laboratories for
research administrators and technical personnel alikeand ERA novices as
well as veterans.
Special offerings this year include a special welcome session for
first-timers, "threaded" sessions (a sequence of offerings intended to
prepare you to tackle real issues and problems at you institution) in
"Planning for ERA" and "Databases," poster presentations, a Solutions
Showcase where you can comparison shop for ERA products from the
for-profit sector, and a plenary entitled "Talk Back to the Feds" where
you can give your suggestions to agency representatives about federal
ERA policy development. Our keynote speaker is Jordan Ayan, a leading
international speaker and consultant focusing on creativity, innovation,
and technology. Ayan is CEO of Create-It!, Inc., publisher of the
"Executive Technology Briefing" newsletter, author of "Aha! 10 Ways to
Free Your Creative Spirit and Find Your Great Idea," a member of the
board of the Innovation Network, and a fellow in the International
Global Think Tank.
And what could be better than all of these exciting offerings? We think
the meeting place. McCormick Place Convention Center is a modern, airy
assembly of glass, steel, terrazzo, and wood is fully wired. After a
days work, you may relax in the (appropriately named) Networks
lounge, dine in the restaurant, or grab a cab for a short ride to one of
Chicagos famous eateries. Downtown Chicago also offers plenty of other
attractions, toothe Loop, Michigan Avenue (the shoppers paradise),
Navy Pier (with its seventeen-story Ferris wheel), theaters, the museum
campus, and city nightlife.
Check it out now! We hope to see you in Chicago!
