Thought I'd share with the list: at the research institution where I worked
in California, our local U.S. House of Representatives congressperson would
send a very nice letter to the Principal Investigator congratulating
him/her on receipt of federal grants. Sometimes these even arrived before
the award had been set up by the university, but still it was a nice gesture.
