SPONSORED PROGRAMS

Syracuse University seeks nominations and applications for the position
of Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs.  The Director is
responsible for facilitating faculty acquisition of extra-mural funding,
for all pre-award grants and contracts management and also serves as the
University’s Director of Technology Transfer.  The position includes
responsibilities for intellectual property management, research
development, and the management and formulation of university policy in
matters involving research, technology transfer, intellectual property,
and compliance with government regulations.  The Director reports
directly to the Vice President for Research and Computing.

Syracuse University is a member of the Association of American
Universities, enrolling 18,000 students in 13 schools and colleges.
Research, creative, and professional activity across campus takes many
forms and involves many sponsors.  The Director is expected to achieve
an understanding of our diverse programs and to be a vital force for the
development of sponsored funding in all areas.  The University
encourages innovative interactions between its academic programs and
external partners.  The Director will be involved in technology transfer
activities of all types, including incubation of small companies and the
development of spinoff companies from university research.

Candidates should have at least a master’s degree in an appropriate
discipline and/or extensive experience in the administration of
sponsored programs and technology transfer.  Familiarity with legal,
regulatory, and business issues within the fields of grants, contracts,
patents, copyrights, and licensing is essential.  Important
characteristics of the successful candidate will include strong
leadership and communication skills, ability to motivate staff and
faculty, excellent negotiation skills, and creativity in the
encouragement of research and entrepreneurship.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and
qualifications.  Review of applications will begin on June 15, 2000, and
will continue until the position is filled.  The position is available
immediately.
