I have a written procedure for how to do this successfully with v4.0. If
you wish, I'll send it to you as an attachment, but you may have to modify
it slightly depending on your operating system and scanner. We had
problems too until NSF provided a Fastlane profile for Distiller 4.0 that
allows output in 3.0 mode.
