The George Washington University, the largest institution of higher
education in the nation’s capital, is currently offering exciting and
rewarding employment opportunities for  grants accounting management
professionals. The University had research expenditures for FY1999
totaling $67.3 million and has recently restructured its grants and
contracts accounting services.  We are currently seeking enthusiastic,
organized, customer service-oriented individuals to join our institution
as we implement the new Grants and Contracts Accounting Services unit
and work towards our goal of moving into the ranks of the nation’s
premier research institutions.

A summary of the positions available, the entry-level qualifications,
and instructions for applying for employment at The George Washington
University follow.

Assistant Director, Grants and Contracts Accounting Services
(Requisition # R8195)

Reporting to the Director, Grants and Contracts Accounting Services, the
Assistant Director will assist with the management of GCAS with specific
responsibility for the day-to-day direction of awards management, cash
management, and general ledger maintenance activities.

To be considered an applicant, it is necessary to have a  Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management; a minimum of four
years of progressive management experience in a post award grants
management office in a large, complex non-profit organization,
preferably a University, to include experience in fund accounting and/or
grant accounting and grant budgeting and forecasting; advanced knowledge
of computer-oriented applications and technology; strong interpersonal,
communication, organizational, supervisory, leadership, change
management, and presentation skills;  the proven ability to work
effectively in a team environment; and a demonstrated willingness to
learn and share new ideas.  A Master’s degree in Business Administration
or related field and/or a CPA credential, wide-ranging experience with
the principles, practices, and procedures relative to Federal and
non-Federal sponsored research in a research medical university,  and
the demonstrated success in business process re-engineering and/or
implementation of new information systems is preferred.  Previous
experience with Oracle financial software is desirable.

Manager, GCAS Special Cost Studies  (Requisition #R8196)

Reporting to the Director, Grants and Contracts Accounting Services, the
Manager, GCAS Special Cost Studies will provide financial consultation,
leadership,  and technical expertise necessary to support, organize, and
complete all cost reports and studies required under various government
regulations and to perform other special projects related to the area of
sponsored project finance.

To be considered an applicant, it is necessary to have a Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting or related field; a minimum of five  years of
experience in fund and/or grant accounting and grant budgeting and
forecasting to include experience with sponsored project finance and
academic medical center operations; advanced knowledge of
computer-oriented applications and technology; wide-ranging experience
in the principles, practices, and procedures relative to Federal and
non-Federal sponsored research in a research medical university; strong
interpersonal, communication,  and organizational skills; the proven
ability to work effectively in a team environment; and the demonstrated
willingness to learn and share new ideas. An advanced degree or CPA
credential and prior experience with Federal indirect cost report and/or
medicine cost report preparation is preferred.  Familiarity with Oracle
financial software is desirable.

GCAS Fiscal Coordinators  (Requisition # R8197)

The GCAS Fiscal Coordinators will be responsible for  monitoring  the
functions associated with the administration of fiscal activities for
sponsored research projects for specific schools/departments;
coordinating  with the Office of Research Services (ORS) to resolve any
issues and/or discrepancies; and serving as an information resource to
principal investigators/research representatives relative to grant
fiscal issues and regulatory and compliance issues.

To be considered an applicant, it is necessary to have a  Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management; a minimum of
three  years of professional experience to include budgeting and/or
accounting and preferably a minimum of one  year of experience working
within a post-award grant and contract environment; familiarity with
computer-oriented applications and technology; strong interpersonal,
communication, and organizational skills; the proven ability to work
effectively in a team environment; and a demonstrated willingness to
learn and share new ideas.  Wide-ranging experience in the principles,
practices and procedures as they relate to Federal and non-Federal
sponsored research in an academic environment is preferred. Familiarity
with Oracle financial software is desirable.

GCAS General Accounting Analyst   (Requisition # R8204)

The GCAS General Accounting Analyst will  perform general accounting
duties related to sponsored projects;  prepare accurate and timely
financial reports and analysis; and maintain appropriate ledgers and
schedules.

To be considered an applicant, it is necessary to have a Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management; a minimum of two
years of professional staff experience in fund accounting and general
ledger maintenance; familiarity with computer-oriented applications and
technology; extensive knowledge of Federal agencies
regulations/procedures, FAR, CAS, GAAP, and OMB Circulars governing
grants management; strong communication and presentation skills; and the
ability to work effectively in a team environment.   Demonstrated
success in business process re-engineering and/or implementation of new
information systems is preferred.  Familiarity with Oracle financial
software is highly desirable.

GCAS Billing/Reporting Specialists   (Requisition # R8201)

The GCAS  Billing/Reporting Specialists will be responsible for the
reconciliation of accounting records, cash management records, and
sponsor fiscal reports including preparation of adjusting/correcting
accounting entries, invoices, Federal cash drawdowns, and fiscal reports
for sponsored projects.

To be considered an applicant, it is necessary to have a Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management; a minimum of two
years of professional experience in accounting and cash management;
familiarity with computer-oriented applications and technology; strong
interpersonal skills; and the ability to work independently with minimal
supervision while completing multiple tasks concurrently and meeting
established deadlines. Familiarity with Oracle financial software is
desirable.
