Associate Provost for Grants and Research
Administration
Hofstra University invites applications for the position of Associate
Provost for Grants and Research Administration. The Associate Provost
directs the Office of Grants and Contracts and is responsible for
coordinating all activities related to external funding; he/she will
develop and direct a coordinated, creative and forward looking program
for maximizing the University research and program development efforts.
Duties include identification of government, private foundation and
corporate funding sources, assisting faculty members and administrators
with the development of proposals for funding, review and editing of
grant and contract proposals, liaison with appropriate officials in
funding agencies, negotiating awards, presenting grants seminars to
members of the University community, and coordination of activities
related to intellectual property issues and technology transfer.
The University is seeking a dynamic leader with a record of
professional experience and accomplishment to lead the University's
research faculty and programs into the 21st century. The Associate
Provost for Grants and Research Administration advances the
instructional, research, and community outreach efforts of the
University and represents the institution's interests in these areas to
federal and state governments, to industry, and to other national and
international constituencies.
The Associate Provost also oversees the publication of the Grants
Newsletter and Hofstra Horizons, a journal highlighting faculty research
achievements, and serves as the Chair of the Human Subjects Committee,
the University's IRB. The position reports to the Provost and Dean of
Faculties and is a member of both the Provost's Advisory Council and the
President's Advisory Council.
Minimum qualifications include at least five years of full-time
experience as a research administrator with an excellent track record
for facilitating grant support, preferably in a college or university
setting. An earned doctorate in an academic discipline as well as
experience in research is strongly preferred. The successful candidate
will be someone who is capable not only of facilitating the preparation
of proposals and the processing of awards but who also has the ability
to collaborate with faculty and administrators on program and project
development.
