Thanks for your comments.  On my part, I do try to decide if I should reply
to the list or only to the sender -- sometimes I make the right choice,
sometimes I don't.  I agree that it's important for us to share, but I
think Debbie thought perhaps

My experience matches yours, although more often than not I find that
people prefer the software that they originally learned and then match
their rationale to that choice.  This is usually because they have figured
out how to make the program work for them, which often includes a lot of
work-arounds to get it to do exactly what they want!  The most often-cited
reason for WordPerfect over Word is indeed the "reveal codes" issue.
