Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) is currently searching to fill two
position in The Graduate School and Research.  IUP, a Doctoral I institution
enrolling over 13,000 students and the largest of the State System of Higher
Education universities, is located in Indiana, PA and is 65 miles northeast

Director, Grants and Sponsored Research

Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for an Acting
Director, Grants and Sponsored Research (two-year initial appointment).
Grant and contract development activities support all academic and
administrative divisions on campus.  In AY 1998-99, 213 new proposals were
submitted, requesting funding of $18 million and resulting in 115 awards of
$7.5 million. The Director will develop and coordinate all pre-award
activities related to the successful pursuit of grants and contracts, with
an emphasis on increasing external funding.  Responsibilities include: the
development of initiatives to foster growth in sponsored programs;
identification and promotion of funding opportunities; training and outreach
activities; preparation of proposals (editing, writing, and review);
development of budgets; development and maintenance of technology
applications related to ERA and proposal tracking; participation in the
development and implementation of new policies and revisions to existing
policies; negotiation of terms and conditions in sponsor agreements, and
development of subcontracts; and supervisory responsibilities for existing
and proposed staff.  The position reports to the Associate Dean for
Research.

The successful candidate will have a master's degree in a related field,
5-10 years research administration experience in a university environment,
experience in proposal development, budgeting, compliance, and technology
applications, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The successful candidate will have the ability to be work in a cooperative
and fast-paced environment.  Salary range is $49,000 - $59,000

Director, Institute for Research and Community Service

Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for an anticipated
vacancy (starting date in summer, 2000) within the Research Division of the
Graduate School and Research.

The Institute for Research and Community Service (IRACS) furthers IUP's
research and public service missions of the University and functions as the
major outreach office of the University to provide access to its expertise
and resources.  Responsibilities include developing partnerships to respond
to identified needs and research interests; assisting with grant proposal
and project development; providing administrative leadership and fiscal
management to IRACS affiliate programs (currently 5 programs),
IRACS-generated projects, and to faculty associates; and providing
administrative assistance to campus centers and institutes (currently 37
entities).  The Director supervises a staff that includes a fulltime
administrative assistant, 2 graduate students, 3 part time undergraduate
students and a variety of part-time faculty associates and has oversight of
25-30 budgets annually.  The position is classified as Management, level 4;
the salary range is $49,00-$59,000.

Qualifications include a master's degree in a social science/related field,
with a doctorate preferred; 3-5 years experience in administration, applied
research, proposal and contract development, and program planning and
evaluation.  Successful candidates shall have experience working in a
collaborative office, building and coordinating university-community
relationships, and shall have excellent interpersonal skills, written and
verbal communication skills, and demonstrated success in acquiring state and
federal funding.
