I've been asked to gather some information on the amount of external
funding brought in by universities similar to ours in the midwest
(regional comprehensive universities -- roughly 16,000 undergrads).  Is
there a published source for this kind of material?  If not, would other
administrators be willing to share the amount of external funding your
institutions received in 1998-1999?
