Diana,
NSF CAREER program (NSF 99-110) replaces the PYI program. PECASE is a
component of the CAREER program in which NSF program official can
nominate a junior faculty who receives a CAREER award to be a nominee for
PECASE award. NSF is one of several federal agencies can nomimate
young investigator for PECASE award. More infor about CAREER and PECASE
program can be viewed at NSF URL:

Hope this helps.
