Mary, our IRB does not consider the source of funding, if any. We've never thought it was relevant to the protection of human subjects. I guess I can imagine a case where it might be, e.g. if a giganto drug company was showering a med school (including PI's and/or subjects) with money to perform a clinical trial, the IRB might want to know that so that they could give extra scrutiny. Fortunately, we don't do anything like that here.
