Applications are sought for the following job opportunity CLINICAL TRIALS BILLING COMPLIANCE OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION Reports to Associate Provost for Research and works with Assistant Dean for Clinical Research in the School of Medicine to oversee, implement and monitor guidelines and processes for appropriate billing of clinical services furnished under clinical trials at UAB. Responsible for educating and working closely with investigators and clinical research staff on development of clinical trial study budgets, in accordance with third-party payer reimbursement rules and other federal guidelines; and developing processes for transmitting and coordinating clinical trial billing information to the Institutional Review Board, Office of Grants and Contracts Administration, and UAB Health System clinical entities, such as University Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic. Oversight for compliance with federal and contractual requirements governing billing for clinical services furnished under clinical trials. Functions 1) Provide centralized oversight and review of clinical trials billing. Must be knowledgeable of clinical trials and Medicare and other third-party payer rules relating to coverage of healthcare services. 2) Train investigators and clinical research staff on development of clinical trial study budgets in accordance with third-party payer reimbursement rules and federal guidelines. 3) Develop processes for transmitting and standardizing clinical trial billing information to the IRB and OGCA. 4) Develop processes for identifying clinical trial patients and appropriate entry into the University Hospital and Kirklin Clinic billing systems. 5) Communicate effectively with investigators, research staff, IRB, OGCA, University Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic on clinical trial billing issues. Education: Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred. Experience: Requires at least five to seven years directly related experience in the management of clinical trials and/or research administration. Special Skills: Knowledgeable about healthcare reimbursement, including Medicare rules relating to coverage of healthcare services furnished under clinical trials. Excellent communication skills required. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
