Hello. This is my first post to this Listserv and I hope this question is
on-topic. If not, please point me in the right direction.

I am currently tasked with managing our OSR proposal and awards database
system. This is an internally written application using SQL Server 7.0 and
Allaire Cold Fusion and is supported by myself and two other development
staff on a very part-time basis. It is completely web-based.

At this time it does not tie-in to financial systems, it only tracks from
the initiation of the proposal to the receipt of the award (and any monies
involved as passthroughs and subawards). It is fairly robust, and I am
looking at making it more so. However, in doing this I had to ask myself if
there may be a package out there that could do it cheaper.

I am interested to learn of other applications that may do this type of
tracking. I am not even sure there are off the shelf applications that do
this at this time. Can any of you recommend a product (or products) that you
have used and your thoughts on what they lacked.

In our OSR department they looked a several packages a few years ago and
found they lacked the flexibility they wanted. I want to re-examine the
issue and try to determine what is best for the department.
