I have enjoyed reading everyone's FastLane comments. I just
wanted to add that it looks like the sponsored research office still
could have de facto control over PINs but it would be a two step
process.
We could assign a faculty member a temporary PIN and then go in
as that faculty member with the temporary PIN and make the
REAL PIN. We then tell our faculty member to remember the PIN
and NOT to change it. If they do change it then it's totally on them
to remember it. (I know, I know, it's ALREADY their responsibility.)
This again points out the fallacy of only the faculty member
knowing the PIN for the sake of the electronic signature.
The thing I fear, that many may share, is that I may need to get
access to a proposal quickly and not have a PIN (the faculty
member may have changed it) or SRO Access. I suppose in the
case of emergency I could follow the same procedure mentioned
above but as we know that takes time, something we all have an
overabundance of I know.
Good luck everyone! :-)
