Assistant Vice President and Controller
The Desert Research Institute is a nonprofit, environmental research
campus of the University and Community College System of Nevada. Its
annual budget is about $25M, 87 percent of which is derived from
faculty-generated grants and contracts. We have approximately 400
faculty and staff in our facilities in Reno and Las Vegas, NV, and at
research sites around the world.
The Assistant VP/ Controller reports to the VP for Finance and
Administration and supervises a staff of 14 employees. As a senior
administrator, the incumbent provides Institute direction on all matters
related to fiscal policies and procedures and is responsible for all
accounting functions, financial statement preparation, indirect cost
proposal preparation, sponsored research administration, administrative
computing, and travel operations. The position requires frequent travel
between Reno and Las Vegas.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business
field; minimum five years experience in sponsored research
administration, accounting, fiscal management, fund accounting, and the
use of business-related software; strong leadership, management, and
communication skills. Preferred: MBA or other master's degree in the
field of business management; CPA, expertise with AMS' College and
University Financial System (Advantage); and several years related
experience in nonprofit setting.
