 ASSOCIATE VICE PROVOST FOR
 RESEARCH

Kansas State University is seeking an individual for the position of
Associate Vice Provost for Research (AVPR).  The AVPR will direct the
Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, with oversight of PreAward
Services.  The AVPR will also oversee two centralized research services,
the Biotechnology Core Facility and the Electronics Design Laboratory.
In conjunction with the KSU Research Foundation and the Mid-America
Commercialization Corporation, the AVPR will help facilitate the
protection and commercialization of university intellectual property.  A
managerial role in technology transfer in the Research Foundation is
possible as well, pending board approval.  The AVPR will work with the
Vice Provost for Research/Dean of the Graduate School and the
Associate Dean of the Graduate School in stimulating the development
of new research programs, especially those involving inter-departmental
and inter-institutional efforts.  The AVPR will serve as a university
liaison with extramural funding agencies and will assume a major new role
in corporate research relations.

Kansas State University is the land-grant institution in Kansas with
21,500 students, including over 3,200 graduate students enrolled in 45
doctoral and 64 masters degree programs.  The university has a funded
research base of over $90 million, including nearly $60 million in new
competitive awards last year.

The university is located in Manhattan in the rolling Flint Hills country
of northeast Kansas,  2 hours west of Kansas City.  There are
approximately 75,000 people in the greater Manhattan area, with excellent
recreational opportunities especially at nearby major lakes.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in a discipline represented at the
university, a long-standing productive record in research, and be
qualified for appointment at the rank of full professor.  Additional
qualifications desired include administrative, intellectual property, and/or
private sector experience as well as strong interpersonal, leadership, and
communication skills.  Salary is commensurate with background and
