The Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina is seeking qualified applicants for the following position:

Assistant Controller for Sponsored and Special Funds

Reporting to the Controller of the School of Medicine, the Assistant
Controller for sponsored and Special Funds is responsible for managing
and coordinating the efforts of support staff in the summarizing,
recording and reporting of transactions and events applicable to the
sponsored and special funds of the Medical School, and fostering an
environment of cooperation and responsiveness between research principal

investigators, departmental business managers and other institutional
personnel and the
accounting support staff primarily responsible for sponsored and special

funds.

Activities include:
1. Overall supervisory responsibilities for the post award grant
accounting and reporting as well as for the facilities and
administrative rate calculation.
2. Supervise and coordinate the management of surplus equipment,
equipment inventories and the recording and reporting of fixed assets
and the related accumulated depreciation.
3. In conjunction with the general accounting staff, coordinate the
summarizing, recording and reporting of financial transactions as
related to sponsored and special funds.
4. In conjunction with the Financial Reporting and Analysis group and
the Budget
Development and Maintenance group, coordinate the preparation of fiscal
year budgets for and variance analyses of sponsored and special funds.
5. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of rules and regulations
applicable
to post award grant accounting / reporting and the process of developing

the facilities and administrative rate (indirect cost).
6. Continually develop staff and provide opportunities for professional
growth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting..
2. Five or more years of experience in the accounting field.
3. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply technical and regulatory
rules.
4. Demonstrated ability to train and provide guidance to support staff.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to develop

and
maintain “customer service” office reputation in busy environment.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience gained in a university or college business office,
knowledge of
A-21, A-133 and cost accounting standards.
2. Experience in handling post award grant accounting and / or the
computation
of a facilities and administrative rate.
3. Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and to continually
learn.
4. Working knowledge of automated reporting tools and spreadsheet
software.
5. CPA and/or MBA desirable, but not required.
