While I knew that NIH is moving away from listing funding opps in the NIH Guide (no comment), this week I’ve noticed that when I attempt to type a PA or PAR number (for example) in the search box on the NIH website home page, which I do all the time as a quick way to get to what I need, nothing comes up but really bizarre, very old articles, personnel pages, or unrelated things, while the announcement itself doesn’t even show up in the results list. I also just tried typing in “parent announcements” as another test; this search previously would always take me right to the page with all of the parent announcements, with the same annoying lack of results.

I didn’t think that we wouldn’t be able to find any announcements anywhere on the NIH site (unless you have a specific link to an announcement – those still seem to work). And their recommendation to use their advanced search page instead wasn’t useful either as the limited search options are not helpful. You can search by type of funding, funding mechanism, type of announcement, but there’s nowhere to actually enter a specific funding announcement (at least not that I’ve found yet). Better get used to navigating on G.G.

Just venting about how useless the website is currently. Happy Friday. ☕🍺🍷
