Sorry, I just can’t not say something, this both-sider nonsense is ridiculous and needs to stop.

I get that no one wants this list serve to be about politics, but false equivalencies aren’t going to help bring people together either..

The Clinton administration tried reducing IDC before by submitting their budget to congress, and going through the legitimate processes that have been used for decades to request the change. Congress chose not to enact it, back when we had a functioning Republic. That is how it is supposed to work.

These two situations are entirely different. Trump made no attempt to go through the appropriate processes even with the Republicans controlling all 3 branches of government. A Friday night news dump with the policy in affect Monday morning. Congress is supposed to control the purse strings, not a South African Billionaire!

You don't often get email from xxxxxx@research.ucla.edu. Learn why this is important

[EXTERNAL SENDER - PROCEED CAUTIOUSLY]

Let’s not divide the aisle any more than it needs to be.  This is not a red or blue issue, it’s an American issue.

Please note, in 1997 the Clinton Administration tried capping IDC at 10% and also again during the implementation of the UG.  This is not the first time this issue has come up.

We are all in this together.

Our institutions need to continue to fight the fascist regime that is trying to destroy medical research.

The many efforts that I am aware of are a great resistance to this illegal effort.

Keep up the good fight. And perhaps the rule of law will prevail. Even in this lawless society.

This Would be a catastrophic change to medical research. I have been in this field, my entire professional career, and I understand the meaning of indirect costs in order to support research. These are real costs audited by federal auditors. And as it is, they don’t cover all of the cost by research institutions. I hope the maniac in the White House is turned down in this latest effort to cripple research.
