Julie:

Do you have access to a School/College of Public Health?  Prior to coming to our College of Nursing, I was in public health where they have a community health worker program.  Having access to this has been a huge help with us in getting organizational participation.

Kind regards,

Robyn

Subject: [EXT] [RESADM-L] Becoming a Registered Apprentice Site?

You don't often get email from xxxxxx@touro.edu. Learn why this is important

Research Administrators—happy new year!  Hoping the brain trust can provide feedback to the below.

For one of our HRSA grants, we have struggled (like most awardees on same grant) to find organizations that are willing to accommodate/provide apprenticeship experience for the new community health workers going through the program.  Due to the struggles of locating participating organizations, it has been a challenge, if not impossible, to meet the ratio requirement for the apprenticeship trainee portion.  If we don’t find a solution, there is a possibility of funds going back to the sponsor.  And to stress—other organizations funded under this program are experiencing the same issue and have expressed the same concerns to the sponsor.

As a possibility, we are considering whether we can/should become a Registered Apprentice Site to have the ability/option to offer aforementioned apprenticeships.  However, our research team has not been through this process and therefore we are uncertain of the pros/cons and the work/time it will take to become a registered site.  Do any of you have experience with becoming a registered site or done this at your organization?  If so, would you be willing to share your experience?

Any feedback or guidance you can provide would be welcomed.  Responses can be sent to Julie King at xxxxxx@touro.edu.

Many thanks for your time!
