Erica, thanks!  I had determined that I would ask him to sit with me and type the SSN in while I looked away 😊

All the best,

Susan

Hi, Susan.

Yes, I’ve been through this a couple of times.  It’s a very easy and quick process.  Once you run it through the system and provide the proof back to the sponsor all will progress as normal.

The hardest part is explaining it to your faculty member.  We are all conditioned to never give out our SS#.  But I’m not sure there is an alternative for this case.  If your faculty is not willing to share their SSN, can you invite them to your office so they can type in the number themselves?  Can they follow the instructions to enter the info into SAM and then provide screen shots?

Good luck!

Hello, colleagues,

We received a request to certify that one of our faculty is not the person in the SAM.gov excluded parties list who has the same name.  This certification requires that we enter our faculty member’s name and SSN into the SAM.gov Excluded Individual section and “add individual” to see if any results are returned (meaning the excluded person is the same as our faculty member), and if no results are returned on this name/SSN, I can certify that our faculty member “is not debarred, suspended, or otherwise excluded form or ineligible for participation in Federal programs or activities.”

I am uneasy about collecting someone’s SSN to enter in, but have come up with a plan to maximize security on our side.  However, before I ask the faculty member to work with me on this, I wanted to ask the collective if anyone has dealt with this and if all seems straightforward.

Many thanks,
Susan
