*Currently, OSP staff is working a hybrid schedule, working two days a week in person.*

Position Overview: 

OSP works with the unit administrators to provide assistance to faculty/staff with proposal preparation, applicable sponsor guidelines, as well as sponsored projects training, education, and communication. OSP works closely with the Office of Contract and Grant Accounting (OCGA) in managing all extramural awards and campus outreach initiatives for sponsored projects.

The Grants and Contracts Manager (GCM) will work as a member of the Office of Sponsored Programs team and be responsible for both pre-award and non-financial post-award management for an assigned UMBC unit. The position is authorized to submit proposals and execute awards for the institution.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination, preparation, review and submission of compliant extramural proposals
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and execute compliant extramural awards, other agreements and agreement modifications
  • Provide research administrative support to assigned UMBC technical unit(s)
  • Draft and implement policies and procedures, and develop and maintain OSP systems
  • Design, implement and teach training material (Percentage will be higher for those individuals who have training as functional area of responsibility)
  • Cultivate internal and external relationships
  • Guide and facilitate funding opportunities, conduct training, and provide supervision to OSP Grants & Contracts Specialist(s) and Grants and Contracts Associates

Required Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree, and at least three years experience in research administration, preferably at an institution of higher education.

The candidate should have excellent communication, organization, multi-tasking, and strong customer service skills. With proven proficiency in the field, the incumbent will be skilled in balancing service with federal regulatory compliance.

Salary and Benefits:

UMBC offers competitive compensation.  This role starts at $74,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and has over 4 weeks of vacation for regular full time roles. Tuition remission is also available. See here for more information about benefits.
